EPA to Set Airplane Emission Restrictions
Target: Gina McCarthy, Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency - Click here to sign
Goal: Thank the EPA for finally committing to setting official standards to limit greenhouse gasses emitted from airplanes - Click here to sign
The Environmental Protection Agency is moving forward with restricting the amount of greenhouse gas emissions released by airplanes after pressure from environmentalists in the form of lawsuits and petitions including ForceChange’s “Reduce Harmful Pollution From Airplanes.” The agency has released its official “final endangerment findings,” which legally requires the EPA to set emission restrictions.
Although air travel accounts for only three percent of U.S. fossil fuel emissions, it’s still a significant contributor and has been left unregulated for far too long. Fighting climate change must be done on all fronts if the planet is to avoid catastrophic effects including water and food shortages and even more extreme weather events than we’ve already seen in recent years.
Additionally, reducing emissions from airplanes is beneficial to airline companies. A study conducted by Virgin Airlines found that simple pilot training on efficient flying methods reduced fuel use by 30 percent, therefore reducing the same amount of exhaust. It’s inexcusable for airlines to be let off the hook in terms of restricting emissions.
Sign out petition to thank the EPA for finally taking a step forward in setting limits on airplane emissions and encourage the agency to make the implementation of these standards a priority.

Lonely and Confined Elephant Finally Released to Sanctuary
Target: Faryal Gauhar, Head of Communications for Free Kaavan - Click here to sign
Goal: Thank the efforts to unchain and set free Kaavan the elephant - Click here to sign
Kaavan, a lonely elephant at the Marghazar Zoo, will finally see freedom after being chained and confined for almost 30 years. After public outcry by the Free Kaavan team and petitions like this one on ForceChange, the Pakistan Senate has agreed that Kaavan needs to be moved to a sanctuary where he will be surrounded by elephant friends and a more natural environment.
Kaavan was the only elephant at the Marghazar Zoo, and for many of those years Kaavan was able to move only a few steps due to the chains that shackled his four feet. The chains were taken off about a year ago, however Kaavan remained alone at the zoo.
Once Pakistan’s National Assembly gives the approval, Kaavan will be moved to a sanctuary. Sign this petition and thank the Free Kaavan team for all their hard work in bringing happiness to the rest of Kaavan’s days.

Assault Weapons Will No Longer be Sold in Massachusetts
Target: Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey - Click Here To Sign
Goal: Applaud recent crackdown on illegal gun sales - Click Here To Sign
Semi-automatic “assault” weapons will no longer be sold in Massachusetts. Despite a ban on these weapons, manufacturers had been skirting the law and exploiting a loophole to sell thousands of guns, but dedicated efforts from legislators and state officials have ensured that these dangerous weapons will be harder to obtain.
According to Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, 10,000 assault weapons were sold in the state last year. Gun manufacturers and vendors avoided the ban by making minuscule adjustments, such as removing a telescoping stock or flash suppressor.
Healey announced in a press conference that this practice will no longer be tolerated. “We put gun manufacturers and gun dealers on notice that we’re cracking down on the sale of illegal assault weapons,” she said. Notices have already been sent to more than 300 gun dealers.
The proliferation of assault weapons presents a danger to citizens across the country, as evidenced by this ForceChange petition. Sign the petition below to thank the attorney general for enforcing the ban and protecting the people of Massachusetts.

FWS Removes Endangered Species Protection for the Lesser Prairie
Chicken. On Tuesday, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officially
announced its decision to remove Endangered Species Act protection for the lesser prairie
chicken in response to recent court rulings. Far from being recovered, this
imperiled bird is in serious trouble, with its population cut nearly in half,
and its habitat of native prairies and grasslands reduced by an estimated 84%.
FWS will review the species’ status once again to determine if it can be
re-listed under the ESA, and we hope for the prairie chicken’s sake that the
agency does so quickly. See what Defenders’ president had to say about this news >
